Domino Love

Who knows how to actually PLAY dominoes? It's funny... I don't see dominoes as a game, I see them as something to be altered into pendants, refrigerator magnets, embellishments, etc. I don't think I've ever actually played a game of Dominoes. Raise your hand if you know exactly what I'm talking about!

(I have the same problem with old scrabble tiles I find at garage sales... monopoly pieces... old flash cards... I would love to run into an old mahjong game tiles. I have yet to find those.)

Anyway, I made these through a workshop over at Roses on my Table. Some of them turned out with a beautiful glass like surface, some had ugly bubbles that rose to the surface. I took the ugly ones and sanded them with fine grit sandpaper and the bubbles are much less noticeable and the dominoes have a nice matte finish. I love it when "mistakes" turn out great! (The second picture, the doms of the map and the 'inner strength' girl are examples of the matte finish.)

Now to work on the other 287 dominoes I have in the drawer...

  1. So Cool!! I think when they started making dominoes, they knew that someday this would be the real purpose for them. We always had dominoes in our home growing up, and not once did we ever play the game--we would line them up so they could tumble down in a chain reaction--fun times :)

  3. These are stunning (I love the map). I haven't worked with dominoes for some time, although I have a few lying around.

Maybe I should buy a complete set and decorate the backs before playing. Oh by the way, if you want to play Dominoes, start with the double 6 :)

  6. Dominoes is really big in my culture. It is not uncommon to see a bunch of men and women, mostly men, sitting around a table slapping around some dominoes.

    I know how to play!!

and I love how you altered them, too.
