This is for all the lonely people...

Valentine's Day... Blah. There's only so much pink and red and cuteness I can handle. I made something for the broken-hearted. The ones that cringe at those deplorable commercials... "diamonds mean love", and "tell her you love her with a gift you spent your entire paycheck on and will therefore go into debt and take years to dig out" Now that's real love. HA! What a marketing strategy.
I was inspired by this website I came across about a week ago, Vintage with Laces. I know it's not as fabulous as hers, but I absolutely love it. And that's what's important, right? It's the first time I flipped the canvas around and worked on the BACK of the canvas, shadowbox-like. I got out every single textured foofy thing I found, laces, doilies, canvas, cheesecloth, burlap, STUFF... Yeh, it's over the top and busy but so what. It's puuurty. Have a Valentine's Day everyone.  (By the way, it was a good movie. It would have been better if it hadn't "skipped over the damaged parts" about 8 times throughout the movie! At least I don't know what I missed.)

(And yes. I know I skipped the word HAPPY. I wish you a happy day every day, not just on Valentine's Day.)

  2. Well, I'm not lonely, but I also hate all the V-day hype. I do love your "un-valentine's day" piece. It's gorgeous on its own. All the textures and yummy lace and burlap and bits and pieces! Inspiring!

  9. This is so lovely!! Have you seen the commercial - instead of buying diamonds, do a self-examination for testicular cancer and protect the family jewels?

  11. Lisa this is totally my style! It looks like you were rummaging in my drawers and jewelry boxes and fabric scraps. I remember going through a lace making phase in JR high and this puts me right there. Thank you for consistently bringing up wonderful thoughts.

  14. Hi Lisa, Your collage is so awesome! I love everything about it and it's nice to hear that I have inspired you. Your are so right about the commercialization. I like to do a bit of handmade Valentine's decoration but we never buy each other gifts for that specific day.
    Hugs,
    Julia

  16. Perfect Lisa! I'm not so much against Valentines Day as I am about having to commercialize every emotion or feeling or anniversary or first tooth ...valentine and feelings of romantic love are between me and my beloved. LOVE the piece.

  20. This is GORGEOUS!!!! My husband and I don't do Valentine's day - we surprise each other on other days - hate the way we are ripped off on Valentines day.

You should be really proud of this piece xxx
