A Dream, Frozen in Time

Fog and Ice. Two of my favorite subjects for photography. So there I was this morning, while waiting for the school bus. Sniffling, snuffling, shuffling around the yard with my camera. The sun was at a very low angle, it was right at the freezing point where everything was still suspended in a layer of ice and time. Breathtaking.

Alien Eye is watching you!

A study in Lines

Are these not Fairy Skirts?

And here are the dancing Fairies.

Frozen in Time
While I was shooting the last pictures, I could feel the slight rise in temperature, the sun shining brightly. Then as if on cue, everything started to drip. It was raining under the trees. All morning long, the sun was shining and the sky was blue but all I heard was drip drip drip on my roof, the pitter patter of raindrops as the trees melted. A bit disconcerting to my fuzzy, flu-filled brain. But simply Amazing.

Domino Love

Who knows how to actually PLAY dominoes? It's funny... I don't see dominoes as a game, I see them as something to be altered into pendants, refrigerator magnets, embellishments, etc. I don't think I've ever actually played a game of Dominoes. Raise your hand if you know exactly what I'm talking about!

(I have the same problem with old scrabble tiles I find at garage sales... monopoly pieces... old flash cards... I would love to run into an old mahjong game tiles. I have yet to find those.)

Anyway, I made these through a workshop over at Roses on my Table. Some of them turned out with a beautiful glass like surface, some had ugly bubbles that rose to the surface. I took the ugly ones and sanded them with fine grit sandpaper and the bubbles are much less noticeable and the dominoes have a nice matte finish. I love it when "mistakes" turn out great! (The second picture, the doms of the map and the 'inner strength' girl are examples of the matte finish.)

Now to work on the other 287 dominoes I have in the drawer...

And the winner is...

One World, One Heart has officially come to an end here in Illinois. I want to go to bed now :-) According to Random.org, the official winner of the big prize is...

KATHY! Also known as QuiltQueen.

Kathy, I will email you personally for your address and get your prize out to you.

And keeping with the spirit of giving... and seeing that I got over 200 comments (207 to be exact) I felt like awarding another prize. I don't have a picture of the prize because I haven't put it together yet, but it will be pretty fantastic :-) I will pack some mixed media goodies and a few paints and some this and that. So the second prize goes to... drumroll please...

JOANIE BOLOGNIE!  Woot! Woot!

Joanie, I will email you also to get your address. Congratulations!

You want to hear something weird? I've had comments on my blog from all over the world. South America, Australia, Europe, Siberia. Both winners are from Illinois. How strange is that? Hmmmm.

I want to thank EVERYONE who visited my blog and left such beautiful comments. It truly made my heart happy and brought warm fuzzies to my soul. I also enjoyed visiting everyone's blogs, although I have to admit, I didn't get to all 876 blogs. Two weeks just isn't enough time. Maybe there will be a next time..... Until then, be happy and blog well!

FAT FREE cookies!

Yeah, I thought that would get your attention!  But it gets better... Fat Free AND full of fiber. Poly-fiber that is. Gosh, I crack myself up. Don't they look delicious? Goes well with a big glass of fake milk.
I'm sorry I can't take credit for these though. I did make them for a Valentine Day Magnet swap with Sarah Whitmire's Soul Journaling Group but I didn't come up with the design. I came across this awesome website and fell in love with many things, just one of them being these felt cookies. Her name is Pamela Susan and she makes gorgeous jewelry and has a bunch of tutorials to make really cool stuff. (That toffee looks really good... but I don't think it's fat free!)
The cookies have little magnets on the back so they can be stuck to the refrigerator or memo board. The cookies are all hand stitched out of wool felt with a craft felt frosting and sprinkled with hand beading. The one above is the one I'm keeping for myself. (YES! I used Artistcellar's Bead Soup mix on it!!) I hope the recipients like their cookies.  Happy Day everyone!

This is for all the lonely people...

Valentine's Day... Blah. There's only so much pink and red and cuteness I can handle. I made something for the broken-hearted. The ones that cringe at those deplorable commercials... "diamonds mean love", and "tell her you love her with a gift you spent your entire paycheck on and will therefore go into debt and take years to dig out" Now that's real love. HA! What a marketing strategy.
I was inspired by this website I came across about a week ago, Vintage with Laces. I know it's not as fabulous as hers, but I absolutely love it. And that's what's important, right? It's the first time I flipped the canvas around and worked on the BACK of the canvas, shadowbox-like. I got out every single textured foofy thing I found, laces, doilies, canvas, cheesecloth, burlap, STUFF... Yeh, it's over the top and busy but so what. It's puuurty. Have a Valentine's Day everyone.  (By the way, it was a good movie. It would have been better if it hadn't "skipped over the damaged parts" about 8 times throughout the movie! At least I don't know what I missed.)

(And yes. I know I skipped the word HAPPY. I wish you a happy day every day, not just on Valentine's Day.)

One World, One Heart

It's that time of year again and I'm very excited to participate in this journey! I discovered One World, One Heart last year when I hopped from blog to blog and met so many wonderful artists. What is OWOH you ask? It's like a worldwide blog party that lasts for several weeks. You check out people's blogs, drool over all the eye candy and inspiration, leave a comment and maybe win fabulous prizes. You can read all about it at the One World One Heart website. If you're thinking about joining this year, get to it! Sadly, it's the last year it's happening.

On with the show! I want to welcome you to RandomVeracity (AKA) Life. Truth. Art. I am a wife, mother, friend, online shop owner and mixed media artist. Among other things. I've had this blog about 16 months now and really enjoy sharing my art and thoughts with all my online friends. On this blog you'll find photography, quilts, mixed media art, rock stars, and random thoughts. Not necessarily in that order.

It was really hard coming up with a giveaway prize because I love to do so many things but I think I got it. I'm going to give away a book called Spilling Open by Sabrina Ward Harrison...
AND a gorgeous little journal handmade by Yours Truly. It has thick watercolor paper pages and is wire bound.
AND this little journaling kit with all kinds of goodies to help you on your way to fill your new journal. It has vintage book pages, 3 jars of yummy paint, fibers, a stamp, several items you can stencil with, some textural fabrics, paper and crocheted doilies.
Leave a comment to be included in the drawing that will be held on February 17th. Please make sure I have a way to contact you if you win, either through your own blog or an email.

Let the games begin! Thank you for visiting my blog, have fun, and good luck!!
